Within the innovation project “Groene Hoogten: Innovation in circular apartment construction” we at Sustainer are working towards one clear ambition: accelerating affordable, circular and low-carbon apartment construction in the city. We don't do this alone; we form a strong consortium with Stamhuis and Route Circulair, with Boelens de Gruyter leading on 'the new way of developing'. By combining our knowledge of timber construction and technology with their practical experience, we bring sustainable building methods to market faster.
Within Groene Hoogten, we follow two parallel guiding principles: The New Way of Building and The New Way of Developing.

The New Way of Building: our vision on industrialisation
For us, The New Way of Building is about the shift from the building site to the factory. The central question is: how do we design sustainable apartments so that they can be produced efficiently, repeatably and with minimal waste?Together with Stamhuis, we develop modular, bio-based building concepts that are calculated down to the smallest detail. Our parametric software plays the leading role. We use digital models not just for design, but to work out everything down to the last screw. Think of:Modelling milling and saw cuts exactly.Defining connections, tolerances and assembly logic.Making sure everything is right in the factory, so it comes together seamlessly on site.The end result is a kind of “IKEA kit for apartment construction”: a solution that is prepared as far as possible, smartly packaged and therefore efficient to assemble at the scale of the city.

The New Way of Developing: a smarter route to results
Where we focus on what we build, The New Way of Developing is about how we get there together. The traditional route is often a slow relay race. In Groene Hoogten, we are building an approach centred on digitalisation and parallel planning.
For us, digitalisation means a single, consistent set of data that the whole chain works from. Our parametric approach translates starting points directly into a model in which we transparently steer on programme, quality, cost and buildability. By organising research, design and coordination with the municipality at the same time (in parallel), we create a way of working together with less noise and faster decisions. This prevents surprises later on in construction or logistics.

An ecosystem for scaling up
Alongside our own investments in technology, we at Sustainer place great value on the broad innovation ecosystem within Groene Hoogten. We pay special attention to the needs of municipalities and (future) residents. After all, acceleration only works if our circular solutions truly take root in the urban context.
